How to Find Where Your Money Goes With Claude AI for Free

By Zaid Koradia·Updated Jul 19, 2026· 9 min read

Claude reads your bank statement for free and shows you exactly where your money goes. Upload your statement PDF, paste one prompt, and Claude finds your forgotten subscriptions, silent bank fees, and quiet spending habits, then builds a savings plan and a ten-year projection. No paid plan and no app to install. It reads only the statement you give it.

You build: A stunning money audit of your own statement: every forgotten subscription, hidden fee, and spending habit found, plus a savings plan and a ten-year projection·10 min·beginner

For months, money quietly left my account and I never noticed. Forgotten subscriptions. Small bank fees. Little coffee and food runs that each felt like nothing. None of it felt big. Added up, it was hundreds of dollars a year, gone.

Then I stopped guessing and let Claude read my whole statement in one go. My AI content has crossed over ten million views across Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook. I have built automations, agents, apps, websites, and more with AI for myself and for real businesses. Now I teach AI to millions of people across several countries, so they get ahead in the AI race.

This is the exact prompt I use to find every leak, and it costs nothing. It runs on the free Claude plan with one prompt I wrote, no budgeting app and no spreadsheet. You will not find it written down anywhere else. And if any step below looks fiddly, relax. You upload a file and paste one thing. That is the whole job.

Why your money leaks and you never feel it

Big spending is easy to see. Rent shows up once and you feel it. The money that really slips away is small and quiet. It comes back every month while you look the other way.

  • Subscriptions you signed up for once and forgot. Two music apps. Three AI tools that do the same thing. A free trial that turned into a real charge.
  • Silent bank fees. SMS alert charges, convenience fees, ATM fees, an annual card fee, tax on those fees. Each one is tiny. Together they add up all year.
  • Habit spending. Coffee runs, food delivery, quick commerce. One order feels like nothing. Times thirty a month, it is a real bill.

You do not need a study to prove this. Your own statement is the proof. The trouble is nobody reads twelve pages of tiny lines and adds it all up by hand. So the leaks stay hidden. That is the exact job I hand to Claude.

Step 1: Open Claude, it is free

Go to Claude in your browser and sign in. The free plan is all you need for this. No card, no paid upgrade, no download.

Open Claude free in your browserClaude plans (the free plan reads your statement)

You should now see a chat box that says something like how can I help you today. That is the right screen. You are already past the only setup there is.

Step 2: Get your statement as a PDF

Open your bank or credit-card app, or your online banking, and download this month's statement as a PDF. Every bank has a download or export button on the statements page. Save it somewhere you can find it.

One or two months is plenty to see your habits. If your PDF needs a password to open, remove the password first, or your bank can send an unlocked copy. Claude cannot open a locked file.

Step 3: Upload it and paste my prompt

In Claude, click the attach button (the little paperclip or plus) and pick your statement PDF. Wait for it to finish loading. Then paste the full prompt below into the message box and press send. That is it.

This next part has a wall of text in it. Do not read it or try to understand it. Just copy the whole thing, paste it, and send. The prompt does all the thinking for you.

The MoneyLeak Audit, my prompt (steal it)

I did not grab a generic budgeting prompt off the internet. I wrote out the rules a careful money analyst actually follows, told Claude to never guess a number and only use what is in my statement, then added a designer's eye so the result comes back as one stunning page, not a boring list. I folded all of it into the single prompt below. It carries my name inside it. Copy it, paste it, keep it.

Prompt: the MoneyLeak Audit, paste this into Claude with your statement
You are **MoneyLeak Audit** — a forensic personal-finance analyst *and* a world-class front-end designer, working for the creator **@fabrichhhhhh** (instagram.com/fabrichhhhhh). I will paste or upload my bank / credit-card statement below. Read ALL of it, then produce ONE single, self-contained, visually stunning HTML file (as an artifact) that exposes where my money is really going — my hidden charges, forgotten subscriptions, and invisible spending habits — and shows me exactly how much I could save.

Do the full analysis and build the whole thing in one go. Don't ask me questions first — work with whatever the statement gives you.

## PART A — ANALYSIS RULES (accuracy is sacred, never hallucinate)
1. Read every single transaction, end to end. Build an internal ledger of date, description, amount, and direction (money in / money out).
2. Use ONLY numbers that actually appear in my statement. Never invent transactions, merchants, or amounts. If a line is ambiguous or unreadable, leave it out rather than guess. Add up carefully. If opening and closing balances are present, reconcile your category totals against them and fix any mismatch BEFORE you start designing.
3. Detect my currency from the statement (₹, $, €, £, etc.) and use that symbol everywhere. Use my region's number format (e.g. Indian lakhs/commas if ₹).
4. Sort every outflow into clear buckets — adapt names to my data — such as: Rent/Housing, Subscriptions, Quick Commerce, Coffee & Cafés, Food Delivery, Groceries, Transport/Cabs, Shopping, Utilities, Cash Withdrawals, Bank Fees & Charges, Investments/Savings, Other.
5. Compute total in, total out, net (in − out), and net as a % of income.

## PART B — THE STORY TO SURFACE (only include what my data actually supports)
- **The verdict:** did I gain or lose money this period, and exactly how much. If I LOST money, lead with the loss. If I SAVED money, celebrate it and lead with the surplus + savings rate instead — but still expose the leaks.
- **Runway:** if I'm net-negative, estimate how many days my remaining balance lasts at this burn rate. If net-positive, show my savings rate and how fast my balance is growing.
- **Where it went:** full category breakdown, each with amount + % share, biggest first.
- **Habit confessions:** call out my biggest repeat-spend habits (coffee runs, food delivery, quick commerce, cabs, etc.) with transaction count, monthly total, and the annualised figure (×12). Make one of them the emotional centrepiece if the data is strong (e.g. "you bought coffee 19 times").
- **Subscription stack:** list EVERY recurring charge with amounts, plus monthly and annual totals. Flag likely-overlapping ones — two music apps, multiple cloud storages, multiple AI tools, multiple design tools — with an "overlaps" tag.
- **Silent charges:** itemise every bank fee, SMS/alert charge, convenience fee, annual card fee, ATM fee, and GST/tax-on-fees — the stuff I never noticed. Show the monthly + annual total.
- **Escape plan:** 4–6 concrete, non-preachy moves, each with a realistic monthly saving. NEVER cut rent, investments, or genuine essentials — only leaks and impulse spend. Sum to a total "reclaimed per month" and per year.
- **The payoff:** take that reclaimed monthly amount, invest it at 12% per year for 10 years (state clearly this is an illustrative assumption, not a guarantee), and show the future value as a big hopeful number. Message: same life, same salary, one decision.

## PART C — DESIGN (make it gorgeous — this is a lead magnet for @fabrichhhhhh)
Build ONE self-contained `.html` file. **No external JS libraries.** All charts must be hand-drawn with inline **SVG and CSS only** so nothing can ever break. Load fonts from Google Fonts and let them degrade gracefully.

**Feel:** a premium, cinematic, scroll-driven story — like a "financial Wrapped," not a boring report. Build tension → shock → relief.

**Design tokens (use exactly):**
- Background: deep plum-navy gradient — base `#0A0A12` → `#110F1C`, with a soft gold radial glow top-right and a faint mint glow left.
- Surfaces: `#16131F` / `#1C1826`; hairline borders `rgba(255,255,255,.08)`.
- **Colour = meaning:** Gold `#F4C15D` = my money / wealth. Red `#FF6B6B` = losses, leaks, danger. Mint `#5BE9B9` = savings, rescue, good moves. Text warm-white `#F6F2E9`, muted `#9A93A8`.
- Type: **Fraunces** (900) for big emotional headlines & hero numbers; **Inter** for body; **JetBrains Mono** for all money figures, labels, and eyebrows.

**Section order (full-width vertical scenes, generous spacing, numbered 01–07 eyebrows):**
1. **Hero / the verdict** — giant Fraunces headline with the net loss (or gain) that counts up on load; a one-line sub-story ("earned X, spent Y, that's Z% of income"); three stat cards (money in / money out / net); a balance "drain" bar showing opening → closing; a scroll cue.
2. **Runway** — huge red number + a mint→gold→red gradient meter with a marker showing where I am.
3. **Where it went** — animated SVG donut (each category a segment) beside ranked CSS bar rows with amounts and % share.
4. **Habit confession** — repeat-spend centrepiece drawn as a row of little SVG icons (e.g. coffee cups), three stat cards, and a dashed "annualised" callout.
5. **Subscription stack** — a 2-column grid of every subscription; overlapping ones get a red "overlaps" pill and tinted card; a gold total bar (monthly + yearly).
6. **Silent charges** — a clean itemised list of hidden fees with a red running total.
7. **Convenience tax** (if data supports) — quick-commerce vs food-delivery cards + a combined callout.
8. **Escape plan** — each move as a row with a mint ✓, a short description, and a green "+₹/month" saving; then a big mint "reclaimed per month / per year" panel.
9. **The payoff** — a huge gold→mint gradient future-value number, the hopeful caption, and buttons: **"Save as PDF"** (calls `window.print()`) and "Read from the top."

**Motion:** scroll-triggered fade-up reveals (IntersectionObserver), count-up animations on every big number, animated donut/bars/drain-bar on scroll into view. Mobile-first. Respect `prefers-reduced-motion`. Add a clean `@media print` stylesheet so "Save as PDF" looks great.

## PART D — HEAVY @fabrichhhhhh BRANDING (required, throughout)
- Top bar reads: **"moneyleak audit — by @fabrichhhhhh"**.
- A **sticky Instagram badge** fixed to the bottom-right on every scroll: a gradient IG glyph + "Follow @fabrichhhhhh", linking to https://instagram.com/fabrichhhhhh (hidden when printing).
- A prominent **follow card** right after the payoff: gradient IG icon, "@fabrichhhhhh" in big Fraunces, the line "This audit was built for you by @fabrichhhhhh — follow for more money breakdowns that actually change how you spend," and a gradient **"Follow on Instagram"** button linking to the profile.
- Footer credits **@fabrichhhhhh** and links **instagram.com/fabrichhhhhh** in gold.
- Use an Instagram-style gradient (`#F4C15D → #E24B4B → #B57FE8`) for all IG glyphs/buttons.

## PART E — CLOSING NOTE inside the report
Add a small footer disclaimer: this reads only the transactions I provided; figures are grouped and annualised for illustration; the 12% return is an illustrative long-term assumption, not a guarantee; it's a mirror for my habits, not financial advice — check a professional before big money moves.

Now here is my statement:
[PASTE OR UPLOAD YOUR BANK STATEMENT HERE]

Stop and look at what you just did. You handed a forensic money analyst your whole statement and asked for a full audit. It cost you nothing and about two minutes. The hard part is behind you.

What Claude hands back

In a minute or two, a full page builds itself in front of you. It reads your real numbers and only your real numbers. Here is what is on it.

  • The verdict. Did you gain or lose money this month, and the exact amount. No sugar-coating.
  • Where it went. Every category, biggest first, with the amount and the share of your spending.
  • Your habits, confessed. How many times you ordered coffee or food, what it cost this month, and what that same habit costs you in a year.
  • Your subscription stack. Every recurring charge, the monthly and yearly total, and a flag on the ones that overlap and waste money.
  • The silent charges. Every bank fee and hidden cost pulled into one list with a running total, so you finally see them.
  • Your escape plan. Four to six real moves to plug the leaks, each with a dollar saving, adding up to money back in your pocket every month.
  • The ten-year payoff. What that saved money could grow into over ten years, shown as one big hopeful number.

It only reads what you give it, so it is only as complete as your statement. The ten-year number uses a steady growth rate as an illustration, not a promise, and markets do not move in a straight line. This is a mirror for your spending, not financial advice. For a big money decision, talk to a real professional. Everything up to that point is the honest truth about your own money.

How you check your money from now on

Here is your new normal. Once a month, when your statement drops, you do one thing. Download the PDF, open Claude, upload it, and paste the prompt. Two minutes, and you know exactly where your money went.

Do it three months in a row and something changes. You start seeing the leaks before they happen. You cancel the app you never open. You skip the order you would have regretted. You are not budgeting harder. You are just finally looking, with a tool that reads faster than any human can.

Same income, same life, one small habit. That is the whole game. You are not learning to manage money the hard way. You are pointing a tireless analyst at your own numbers and letting it show you the truth.

If something goes wrong

  • Claude will not open the file: your PDF is password-protected. Remove the password, or ask your bank for an unlocked copy, then upload again.
  • The numbers look off: your statement was probably a scanned image, not real text. Download the proper PDF from your bank app, not a photo or screenshot.
  • It missed some transactions: your PDF may have cut off. Check it opens fully first, and upload one clean month at a time rather than a huge file.
  • The page did not build: tell Claude build the HTML file again as an artifact. Sometimes it answers in text first and just needs the nudge.
  • You want it in dollars but it showed another symbol: it copies whatever symbol is in your statement. That is correct. It never converts your money.
Is this really free?
Yes. Claude's free plan reads your PDF statement and builds the full audit. No card, no paid upgrade, no app to buy. You only pay if you later choose a paid plan for heavier use, which you do not need for this.
Is my bank statement safe?
Be sensible with it. This sends your statement to Claude to read, the same as uploading any file to an AI chat, so only do it if you are comfortable with that. Anthropic's privacy policy covers how your data is handled. If you want extra caution, black out your full account number in the PDF first. The audit still works fine.
Is this financial advice?
No. It is a clear mirror of your own spending, built from your real numbers. It shows you where your money went and where it leaks. For any big decision, like investing or a loan, talk to a licensed professional.
Do I need Claude Code or any coding?
No. This runs in the normal Claude chat in your browser. You upload a file and paste a prompt. There is no code and nothing to install.
How many months should I upload?
One or two months is enough to see your habits and subscriptions clearly. Upload one clean month at a time. A single huge file can get cut off.
Is the ten-year projection a real promise?
No. It uses a steady growth rate as an illustration to show what small savings could become over time. It is not a guarantee, and real markets go up and down. Treat it as motivation, not a forecast.
This still feels like a lot. What do I do?
It is genuinely two steps. Open Claude, upload your statement, paste the prompt. Copy the whole prompt without reading it. The prompt does every hard part for you.
