How to Auto Apply to Jobs With Claude in Your Browser

Applying to jobs is a grind. The same forms, your resume tweaked ten ways, fifty times a day, for weeks. I build systems that kill busywork like this, so I pointed Claude at it.

I set up real automations with Claude every day, and two of my own apps are live on the App Store and the Play Store. For this one I read Anthropic's own pages on the Indeed connector and Claude for Chrome, tested the whole flow myself, and turned it into two prompts you just paste.

Here is what it does. Claude finds and ranks every job you qualify for, then writes a tailored resume and cover letter for each. That part is free, and you apply them yourself in minutes. Want Claude to click submit for you too? It can, on a paid plan. This is the exact setup I use, and you will not find it written this straight anywhere else.

The two tools that actually do it

Two tools do the work, and it helps to see the split. One finds and tailors, and it is free. The other clicks submit for you, and it is the paid part you can skip. Once you see it, the whole thing makes sense.

First, the Indeed connector. It is official, built by Indeed, and it sits in Claude's own connectors list. But it only reads. It can search jobs, open a job's details, read your resume, and look up a company. That is all it does. It hands you apply links, but it cannot fill or submit a single application.

Second, Claude for Chrome. This is Anthropic's browser extension, and it is the part that actually clicks submit for you. It works inside a browser tab, so it fills forms and sends them, with you approving each one. Here is the honest split. The connector is free, so finding and tailoring costs you nothing. Claude for Chrome needs a paid Pro plan, so the auto-submit is the one paid piece. You can skip it and apply your shortlist by hand for free.

Set up the free part first (about five minutes)

The free method needs two things, and you never write a line of code.

One. Make a free Claude account if you do not have one. The free plan is enough to find and tailor every job. You only need a paid plan later if you want the optional automation.

Two. Turn on the Indeed connector inside Claude. Open Claude, go to Customize, then Connectors, add Indeed, and log into Indeed once when it asks. You can do this in your browser at Claude.ai or in the Claude desktop app. Either one works.

Optional: set up the paid automation (only if you want hands-off)

Skip this unless you want Claude to click submit for you. It needs a paid Pro plan, because Claude for Chrome is on paid plans only. Two more steps.

Three. Get a paid Claude plan and install Claude for Chrome. It is Anthropic's own browser extension, it works in Chrome or Edge only, and Pro starts at about $20 a month. This is the piece that submits your applications for you.

Four. Make a separate Chrome profile and log into Indeed there. Claude works inside that profile, so your everyday browsing stays untouched. Then set Claude for Chrome to ask before acting, so it checks with you before every important click.

Stage one: let Claude find and tailor your jobs (free)

This is where Claude does the hunting. Open Claude with the Indeed connector on. Attach your resume as a PDF. Paste the prompt below. Claude reads your resume, searches Indeed, drops anything you are not qualified for, and hands you a ranked shortlist with a tailored pitch and an apply link for every job.

You are my job-search analyst. I have connected the Indeed connector and attached my resume (PDF).
Use ONLY what is on my resume and what Indeed returns. Do not invent employers, dates, skills, or numbers.

MY PARAMETERS (edit before sending):
- Target roles/titles: [e.g. "AI engineer, ML engineer, developer advocate"]
- Locations / remote: [e.g. "Remote (US), or Bengaluru hybrid"]
- Minimum salary (if it matters): [e.g. "$90k+ / open"]

DO THIS, IN ORDER:
1) Read my attached resume. In 3 lines, summarize my real strengths, archetype, and any gaps, from the resume only.
2) Use the Indeed connector to search for roles matching my parameters. Pull enough results to rank a strong shortlist.
3) Keep ONLY roles I am genuinely qualified for. Drop anything requiring a credential, clearance, or years I do not have. If I need sponsorship, drop roles that say no sponsorship, and the reverse.
4) Rank the survivors by how likely I am to get an interview. Give me the TOP 12.
5) For EACH of the top 12, output: Rank, Company, Title, Location, Salary if shown, Date posted; Match percent with one line of why tied to my real resume; the direct APPLY URL Indeed returns; the apply type if you can tell (Indeed Easy Apply / company site / unknown); a tailored 2 to 3 sentence summary that reframes my REAL experience for this role with no new claims; a tailored 3 to 4 sentence cover note specific to this company; and any blockers that will need my input at apply time.
6) End with a clean, copy-pasteable SHORTLIST TABLE: Rank, Company, Title, Apply URL, Apply type, Match percent. I will use this to apply, by hand or by pasting it into Claude for Chrome.

RULES:
- Never fabricate experience, skills, or answers. If the resume does not support a claim, do not make it.
- If Indeed returns few good matches, tell me honestly and suggest 2 or 3 better search terms. Do not pad the list.
- USD only for any money you quote. Plain language.

Stage two: let Claude submit them for you (optional, needs Pro)

This stage is optional. You already have everything to apply for free from stage one. This just automates the clicking, so you can send a big batch without sitting there. It needs a paid Pro plan, because Claude for Chrome is on paid plans only. On the free plan, skip this and apply your shortlist by hand. You lose the automation, nothing else.

If you want it, here is how. Open Claude for Chrome in the separate profile where you are logged into Indeed. Make sure it is set to ask before acting. Paste your real details and the shortlist into the prompt below. Claude opens each job, fills the form, shows you everything, and waits for your yes before it submits.

HOW TO WORK, repeat for each job starting at Rank 1:
1) Open the job's Apply URL. Read the form.
2) FIRST scan for a stopper. SKIP and log the job if you see: a CAPTCHA or "verify you are human" (you must not attempt to bypass these), a login wall or "create an account" step, a required question you cannot answer truthfully from MY REAL DETAILS, a file/assessment I have not provided, or anything asking for payment.
3) If the form is clean, fill every field from MY REAL DETAILS plus the tailored summary/cover note. Upload my resume when prompted.
4) Do NOT submit yet. Show me a short summary: company/title, every field you filled, every screening answer, and anything you left blank.
5) WAIT. I will reply "submit", "fix: ...", or "skip". Only submit when I say "submit". After submitting, confirm the on-screen success/reference.
6) Log the outcome in a running table: number, Company, Title, Status (APPLIED/SKIPPED/NEEDS-ME), reason if not applied, time. Then next job.

HARD RULES:
- Never fabricate an answer. If you do not have a truthful answer from MY REAL DETAILS, leave it blank and flag it.
- Never submit without my explicit "submit" for that specific job.
- Stop and ask before entering anything sensitive (government ID, SSN, date of birth, bank details). I will handle those.
- If a page asks me to log in, pause and let ME log in, then continue.
- One job at a time. No batch submitting, no "apply to all".
- At the end, print the full log: how many applied, skipped, and left for me, with a reason each.

How you job-hunt from now on

Your job hunt is not typing the same form fifty times anymore. It is a short routine you run whenever you want.

• Open Claude with the Indeed connector on. Run prompt one. Get a fresh ranked shortlist with tailored applications, free.
• Apply them yourself: open each apply link, paste the tailored pitch, and submit. A few minutes.
• Want it hands-off? On a paid plan, run prompt two in Claude for Chrome and approve the clean ones as they come.
• Save each shortlist so you never apply to the same job twice.

If it breaks

• Claude for Chrome will not turn on: you need a paid Claude plan, and it runs in Chrome or Edge only. Check your plan and your browser.
• The Indeed connector is missing: open Claude, go to Customize, then Connectors, and add Indeed. Log in once when it asks.
• It applied to nothing: it probably hit CAPTCHAs and login walls, which it skips on purpose. That is normal. Tap through those few by hand.
• It keeps pausing before it clicks: that is ask-before-acting mode doing its job. Read what it plans, then approve. It is meant to check with you.
• It got a detail wrong on a form: your details at the top of prompt two are the only source it uses. Fix them there and run it again.
• Your accounts feel at risk: never let it run unattended, keep it in ask-before-acting mode, and let it stop at every wall. Slower and supervised is what keeps you safe.

Can Claude really apply to 500 jobs an hour?

No. That number is a myth, and I will not sell it to you. Claude applies one job at a time, with you approving each send. It is slower than the hype and far safer, and it actually gets you interviews.

Is this really free?

The core is, yes. On the free Claude plan, Claude finds every job you qualify for and writes a tailored resume and cover letter for each, and you apply them yourself for free. The only paid part is the optional automation, Claude for Chrome, which clicks submit for you and needs a Pro plan. You are never forced to pay to use this.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. There is no terminal and no code here. You turn on the Indeed connector and paste my first prompt, all free. The optional automation adds one browser extension and a second prompt. If a step still looks hard, relax. The prompts do the work and I tell you what you should see.

Is this against Indeed or LinkedIn's rules?

Unattended mass-apply bots are, and both sites ban them. This is different. You approve every single submission, and Claude stops at anything sensitive. Keeping a human in the loop, which is you, is exactly what keeps it inside the rules.

Will it apply to everything by itself?

No, and nothing honest will. Roughly a third to a half of the clean, easy-apply forms go through. Claude stops at CAPTCHAs, logins, and new-account screens by design, and hands those to you for a quick tap.

Does it lie on my applications?

No. It only uses the real details you paste into prompt two, and the resume you attached. If it does not have a truthful answer from you, it leaves the field blank and flags it. It never makes one up.

Do I need an API key or extra billing?

No API key ever, and no per-apply cost. Finding and tailoring your applications is free on the free Claude plan. The only paid piece is Claude for Chrome, the optional automation, which needs a Pro plan of about $20 a month. Skip it and apply by hand for free.

Will it enter my passwords or personal ID?

No. Claude for Chrome is blocked from creating accounts and always pauses before anything sensitive. If a page needs a login or an ID, it stops and lets you handle that part yourself.

This still feels too advanced. What do I do?

Do the two free setup steps, then paste prompt one. That alone hands you tailored applications for every job. The paid automation is two more steps plus prompt two, and only if you want it. Each prompt runs itself and shows you what is happening, so you are never left guessing.
